We meet the next generation of Brunei’s creatives at the annual Design and Creative Industries Graduation Exhibition.
The team at AICREATIVV was invited to view the artistic creations of Brunei’s next generation of creatives at the 2023 SPECTRUM: LUMEN Exhibition, whose doors opened on the morning of Tuesday, 9th of May, this year. A project rebranded and revamped as Anew Spectrum in 2021, these exhibitions showcased the final year projects of the ‘Design and Creative Industries’ alumni at UBD, and we were amazed every step of the way.
Illuminating Artistic Visionaries
The exhibition was a feast for the eyes and ears, with a variety of creative projects on display. From written publications and music composition to fashion design and art, it was clear that the students poured their hearts and souls into their work. We weren’t just blown away by the level of creativity and originality on display, but also by the enthusiasm and passion of the students themselves. We had the pleasure of meeting a lot of inspiring individuals, and as we spoke to them about their thought processes and creative decisions, it was evident in the way they enthused about their craft that they love what they do.
Our Creative Designer, Iman, shares her thoughts…
“As a DCI and SPECTRUM senior, I can see that it’s individualistic this year - people explored a variety of different areas of expertise within the realm of art and design. It’s rare to see these sorts of exhibitions that puts effort into creatives’ works in Brunei, so I really enjoyed looking at the new creations by budding creatives.”
As we meet budding artists, digital illustrators, writers, and even game developers, the AICREATIVV team gains an uplifting sense of optimism for the next chapter of the creative industry. And as a creative design agency, we are always on the lookout for talented individuals to collaborate with. So with a stack of collected business cards and a list of potential candidates, we look forward to the opportunity to work with them in the future and to give them a platform to apply their talents in the real world. We have no doubt that they will go on to achieve great things in the creative industry!
Some wise advice from our Agency Accounts Manager, Amaru...
“I can feel the students’ efforts in the whole exhibition - you can clearly see the strengths of each student being portrayed in the different installations. The next step would be to bridge the gap in business knowledge: how they can translate their skills and passions into business practices, so that they can be someone that thrives in the business industry.”
A True Celebration of Creativity
The Lumen Exhibition was a space where we could embrace the artistic vision and expression of Brunei’s youth, and we feel privileged to have been able to witness the seeds of their passion blooming to life. The next generation of creatives is filled with inspired eyes and hopeful hearts, ready to shape the world into something beautiful. We thank the students of DCI for sharing their work with us, and we wish them all the best for their future careers.
Some thoughts from our Strategic Partnership team member, Elroy...
“This year’s LUMEN is all about the students’ strengths. It’s great to see so many different styles and creations, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the next batch of graduates could top this. With a more curated collection, these exhibitions could go to the next level.”
The 2023 SPECTRUM: LUMEN Exhibition showcases 63 creative projects across 10 different clusters within the ‘Design and Creative Industries’ major, ranging from architecture and interior design to the fine arts.
